DAVE PEARSE

Chairman
Dave is an insurance industry veteran with over 40 years of experience. He co-founded the Bay Union Financial Services Group in 1990 where he has served as CEO since 2001. In February 2024, Dave was appointed Executive Chairman of the Jacana Group where he is responsible for shaping the company’s strategic direction and driving its mergers and acquisitions activities.
STEVEN JACK

Steven matriculated from Glenwood High School in Durban in 1987, following which he moved to Johannesburg to study commerce at The University of the Witwatersrand. During this time he embarked on a successful career as a professional cricketer, representing Transvaal and South Africa. In 1994 he joined the Aegis Insurance Company as a trainee, and then joined James Jackson as an Accounts Executive in 1996. In 1999 Steven was employed by Glenrand MIB as a Business Development Executive, and in 2001 he founded AW Jack and Associates with his Late father Andy.
AW Jack and Associates became Jack & Seach Insurance Brokers in December 2012 following a merger with BFS Financial Services, where he has served as CEO to date, managing the company’s integration into the Jacana Group in 2022 and driving the formation of Keeper in March 2025.
JOANNE WARMBACK

Joanne is the financial director of Keeper (Pty) Ltd, with 19 years at Kapara and 23 years in the insurance industry. With her extensive financial and industry experience, Joanne performs a key role in managing the financial success of the business.

Dave entered the insurance industry in 1972 starting at IGI and then Marine & Trade, followed by a short stint at Vavasseur as a broker. In 1976 he was approached to form Concorde Bank Insurance Brokers and dealt predominately with yellow metal plant risks, being fortunate to have a client from this period still on the books. Following this he joined JH Isaacs in 1978, and this formed the foundation for his career spanning some 22 years, including a couple of listings.
In June 1999 Dave formed Kapara Insurance Brokers together with Morag Dover. 25 years later, Kapara is recognised as a leading independent insurance brokerage with a solid brand and exceptionally high client satisfaction and retention, and he remains proud to have established this cornerstone of excellence going into the future.
MANNY ZEHNA

Manny graduated with a National Diploma in Production Management and a Higher Certificate Of Insurance at Wits Technikon, and started his insurance career in January 1990 with Willis Faber Enthoven as an Internal Accounts Executive Backup. In 1993 he joined Hoskens Johannesburg as an Accounts Executive and in 1994 he moved to Glenrand MIB where he became a Divisional Director until 2004. Manny then joined Mallac Hearle & Associates as a Director, a position he has held to date, focusing on managing and optimising business operations to ensure profitability, and servicing a diverse client base and growth through new business.
ROB HEARLE

Rob completed his schooling at Tettenhall College in Wolverhampton, England in 1965, before joining The Royal Globe Group (now Old Mutual Insure) in Cape Town in 1967. In 1970 he joined Gardner Mountain Insurance Brokers and then Rimmer & Associates Insurance Brokers, which saw him being transferred to Johannesburg in 1972. In 1974 he founded Mallac Hearle & Associates (Pty) Ltd with the Late Bob Mallac, and has since served as a Director of the company.
JULIE DA SILVA

Julie, through a personal connection, found herself working in the claims department of Heritage Insurance Brokers in 1990, which gave her an opportunity to transition into a career in the short-term insurance industry. Handling claims provided her with valuable insight into the industry and through working directly with policyholders, she gained a deeper understanding of how insurance policies work, the importance of policy wordings, and the nuances of risk management. Her claims background provided her with a solid foundation for her role as an Accounts Executive. After Aon acquired Heritage, Julie joined Kapara Insurance Brokers in 2011 and progressed until being appointed a Director at Kapara.
STEPHEN HANSSEN

Stephen joined the insurance industry in 1991 at Mutual and Federal where he spent nine years in various divisions. Following this he worked at an independent brokerage and the new venture that was acquired by Santam. In 2003 he started his own brokerage, Riverstone Insurance Broker and six months later an administration company called Catalyst Group. In 2014, Stephen sold his administration company to focus on growing Riverstone. Two years later he merged Riverstone into STP Insurance Brokers and took up the role of Chief Operating Officer. Stephen later assumed the position of Managing Director of STP in 2018, and in the years that followed, STP made numerous acquisitions, one of which was a stake in Kapara Insurance Brokers in Johannesburg where he also took on the role of MD.
Further developments involved selling a stake to private equity firm Medu Capital. At the beginning of 2024, Medu consolidated their brokerage investments into Jacana Group (Pty) Ltd, one of the largest and fastest-growing independent broker groups in South Africa. Stephen currently holds the position of Executive Head of Jacana Group whilst still maintaining his role as MD in STP and director on the various brokerage boards.
NHLANGANISO MKWANAZI

Nhlanganiso is a co-founder and Director of Medu Capital and is responsible for the strategic development of Medu Capital, investment execution and management. He has 26 years of experience in auditing, management consulting and private equity investing. After qualifying with Deloitte & Touche, Nhlanganiso joined Gemini Consulting as a consultant in strategy development and business transformation projects. He later joined Brait Private Equity and was appointed as a director. Nhlanganiso serves on a number of boards of various companies.
SANDILE BUTHELEZI

Sandile is a Principal at Medu Capital and is responsible for investment execution and management. He has 11 years of experience in auditing, transaction services, and mergers and acquisitions. After qualifying with Ernst & Young, Sandile briefly stayed as an assistant audit manager before joining KPMG as a manager in transaction services where he performed financial due diligence assessments. Sandile also spent over three years at Barclays Africa in their corporate development division performing acquisitions, disposals, and capital raise for Barclays Africa Group companies.
